Positions

My primary position (1995–present, so 30 years already; time flies when you're having fun!) is as a University of Illinois Chicago faculty member. I joined the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science in 1995 and moved to the Department of Computer Science in 2008. Specific positions: Research Assistant Professor, MSCS, 1995–1998; Assistant Professor, MSCS, 1998–2001; Associate Professor, MSCS, 2001–2005; Adjunct Associate Professor, CS, 2003–2005; Professor, MSCS, 2005–2008; Adjunct Professor, CS, 2005–2008; Research Professor, CS, 2008–present. I am also affiliated with Academia Sinica in Taiwan, and have held affiliations with a variety of further institutions.

As of 2025, I have acquired 3.5 million USD in external funding for my research at UIC; counting joint projects within UIC, 5 million USD in external funding for UIC; counting joint projects with other universities, 7.5 million USD in external funding. I have also helped with preparation of grant proposals bringing more than 30 million USD in external funding to other institutions. The University of Illinois Chicago was formerly known as the University of Illinois at Chicago. The name changed in 2020.
