File types
Browsers decide how to display an HTTP file
according to a file type provided by the HTTP server.
Many file types are listed in the
IANA media types registry.
You can control the types provided by publicfile for your files.
A file named any.thing.here.audio=vnd:digital-winds, for example,
will have a file type of audio/vnd.digital-winds.
You can use lowercase letters, digits, -,
: (meaning .),
and
= (meaning /).
publicfile recognizes
the following file type abbreviations:
- .dvi means application/x-dvi.
- .gif means image/gif.
- .gz means application/x-gzip.
- .html means text/html.
- .jpeg means image/jpeg.
- .mpeg means video/mpeg.
- .pdf means application/pdf.
